Abstract

The article discusses the process of borrowing terminological units from Arabic into English, being a very complex process that has a significant impact on the formation of all levels of the language system of British and American English. The connection between the grammatical system of the English language and borrowed scientific language units is interdependent. On the one hand, Arabisms are subject to all traditional methods of assimilation in English, on the other hand, the grammatical system of the English language is also subject to the process of borrowing. The wordformation activity of Arabic borrowings and their word-formation potential depend, firstly, on the part-of-speech affiliation of Arabisms: the most active are nouns, the least active are numerals, adverbs. And, secondly, on the degree of relevance of the named objects, objects, phenomena, concepts that are nominated by Arabisms.
